Social Action

We believe church should make a positive difference to the world around us. We have set up community projects in West Dulwich through our community charity 4ALL. We hope to nurture the resources people need for their relationships and their daily lives, and be encouraged to live faithfully, seek justice, peace and care for the environment.

The Social Justice group meets regularly:

  • To consider Food Poverty. We continue to support the work of Norwood and Brixton Food Bank who provide emergency food for local people in crisis. They are also developing their services to offer debt advice.
  • To examine the underlying issues of why Foodbanks exist. We have drawn on the work done by the Church Urban Fund in describing the nature of poverty which is multifactorial. The cartoon below was developed to try and summarise the issues in a way that can be quickly and easily understood.
  • To learn more about Credit Unions and support the Church Credit Champions Network to enable people to get affordable loans.
  • Other topics being discussed are the Living wage and Housing.

If you want to know more please contact Cathy Wiles.

This cartoon was devised by Aldwyn Holley and Philip Maltman to explain the causes of poverty and the difficulties in alleviating it.
